Is Ahura Mazda, the God of Parsis, a version of the Hindu God Kartikeya?(My Facebook post of 22.7.2016)(86)


An author, Ajit Vadakayil, has written that Shukracharya, the priest of the Asuras (who is equated to Lucifer, the Banished Angel of Light from God’s kingdom), is Ahura Mazda, but he was not the God but only the priest of the Asuras. Also, he is depicted as a man blind in one eye, and having a horse as his vehicle, which is far different from the image of Ahura Mazda, which shows him as a man with only his upper body and shoulders visible, while the lower part has wings and    a plume like tail. This description of Ahura Mazda is more like Kartikeya atop his Peacock. 

There is a legend that Lord Murugan came down to South India with the Kadamba rulers led by Mayur- sharman, a Shaiva Brahmin king  (who later became a Jain and was known thereafter as Mayur’varman’, as the suffix ‘Sharma/n’  means ‘Brahmin’). Hence the name of Lord’Murugan’ may also have been derived from the word ‘Mayurgan’, that is, belonging to the ‘Gan (or Clan) of Mayur’- sharman, and as their ‘Gan Devta’, represented them with a stalk of the Kadamba tree in His hand.  They were native rulers of Karnataka  and claim to be linked with the Nanda dynasty of Magadh.(The claim of the clan of descent from Nandas is disputed, but their connection with Magadh does have truth, as the grandson of Mayursharma,Kakustha- varma(5th c. AD) is said to have entered into marital relations with the Imperial Gupta Dynasty of Magadh.

It was a later branch of the Kadambas  that ruled Goa. However on being defeated by the later rulers of the region, they migrated to and settled in Tamil Nadu, where their initial deity Murugan, who was   a great scholar besides being a formidable warrior, became immensely popular, in fact, as much as His brother Ganpati is in the North,  or rather in West India, namely, in Gujarat and Maharashtra, and perhaps, in Madhya Pradesh too, where there are many Gujaratis     and Maharashtrians!

(POINT OF CORRECTION and ADDITION):-                                                                                                                            Raja           Gulab Singh, the Maharajah of the State of JAMMU, KASHMIR and LADAKH,  and the forefather of the last Maharajah of J+K, Raja Hari Singh, was a Dogra,   Not a Sikh.  He had acquired the reins of the Princely State of JAMMU from the Sikh King Ranjit Singh,  the original ruler of Jammu in 1842 AD. It included the complete Poonch block, of which part has been included in the Azad Jammu Kashmir which is       a part of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir(POK) since October 1947.

Raja Gulab Singh subsequently conquered LADAKH – of which BALTISTAN (Now part of POK), was a part – that was  a small kingdom in Tibet.

KASHMIR , including the Indian Administered Kashmir Valley, and the Muzaffarabad Block of Azad Jammu Kashmir which is now controlled by Pakistan (comprising the Muzaffarabad District, Jhelum Valley district, and the Neelam Valley occupied by Pak tribals even before the 1947 invasion of Kashmir by them with the backing of the Pak Army),  was a separate Princely State under the Durrani Pashtuns, which was bestowed upon Raja Gulab Singh by the British Sovereignty in 1846 AD in exchange of money, of which the British were in need then.                     It was then home to Kashmiri Muslims (who were against the sale), as well as 5% Kashmiri Pandits. After the mass exodus of KPs from the Kashmir valley in January 1990 however, their number has fallen to 1.6/2% in the valley. As such, the KPs are entitled to at least the regions of religious and pilgrimage importance in the valley, viz. the area of the Amarnath Shrine and the routes leading to it in the Pahalgam tehsil of the Anantnag district as well as in Baltal and Sonamarg in the Ganderbal district, besides the Kheer Bhavani temple in Ganderbal district.

GILGIT was also a separate kingdom, which was handed over by the British to Raja Hari Singh, the Last Maharajah of Jammu and Kashmir before the independence of J+K. It is Important  to NOTE that Gilgit, even before the Pakistani invasion of the Jammu and Kashmir State, was Not pleased to have been placed under the Maharajah of Jammu-Kashmir and was struggling  to regain its independence from the beginning from J-K, and later from Pakistan after the Pakistani Occupation of Gilgit and Baltistan alongwith part of Jammu and Kashmir).

‘War and Peace.’ Peace, Not War, Yes! But, How Much Should Be The Price Of Peace?


“Pakistan did Not kill My Dad. War Killed Him!” These are the words of Gurmehar Kaur,       a 20 year old student of the Delhi University, with regard to her father Captain Mandeep Singh’s death in the Indo-Pak Kargil War of 1999 (when Pakistani troops infiltrated Kargil which is a part of Indian Administered Kashmir), at which time she was just over two and    a half years, which stirred a “Hornest’s Nest” in the Ramjas College campus, with members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party accusing her of being pro-Pakistan. The students of the Delhi University and the secularist brigade including the leftists on the other hand are firmly in support of Gurmehar and are taking the opportunity to rake up the demand for ‘Azadi for Kashmir’ and condemn the ABVP’s hysterical outburst over her neutral remark. Was Gurmehar Kaur right, or was she being unduly diplomatic towards Pakistan, in making the impersonal statement?

How did Gurmehar arrive at that opinion? Her mother Rajvinder Kaur explained that it was she who led her think of her father’s martyrdom during the war in that objective manner. Gurdeep as a child reacted towards the loss of the father in the war in the same as anybody generally would. She harboured deep resentment and hatred against Pakistan and its Muslim citizens for taking her father away from her through the War. Her mother grew anxious to see her little daughter growing up with such severe, negative feelings, even if it was towards Pakistan, India’s political enemy and its people, and so she made her think of the tragedy from a different point of view, that no matter who might have waged the war against India, it is War itself that is the real Evil. Probably Rajvinder Kaur believed in fighting against the Pakistani invaders in the Gandhian manner, by Dialogue and nonviolent and peaceful ‘Satyagraha’, or passive Noncooperation, as Gandhiji did for India’s Independence. Dialogue is in principle, the best way to resolve conflicts, but it is effective only if both parties or nations are willing to understand each other and come round to arrive at a compromise that would benefit the people of both nations, instead of making it an ego issue to acquire or hold on to a land against the will of the people. Or else, each nation should evolve an administrative policy whereby their citizens are pacified to stay with them than join hands with  the other side. Otherwise Dialogue, for mere appearance sake, will end nowhere, and both the sides will just ‘Die Logging!’

The Pakistani enemy of India is of a different type from the British, not amenable to peaceful settlement of the Kashmir issue. Also, as per the information that has been received from the British sources lately, it was the active and fierce fight-back policy of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and his Indian National Army(Azad Hind Fauj) which actually intimidated the British Colonials and led them to Quit India, rather than Gandhi Bapu’s ‘Fast Unto Death’ strategy in protest of the British Rule, as is commonly impressed onto the minds of the majority of gullible Indians!

What Gurmehar’s mother taught her may have been the right thing to do when Gul, as she is called by her family and friends, was a kid. But Now that she is grown up enough to understand how and why the war took place, her mother should have told her all the facts that led to the battle without hiding the other side of why it became necessary , or adopting a goody-goody stand.For what she had said to Gul was the ‘Half-truth’ or ‘Ardha-Satya’ without explaining the Precipitating factors of the War. At least at this point, when her brainwashing of Gul is bringing her into serious and unnecessary conflict with the staunch opponents of Pakistan and its people because of her immature ingrained convictions, it is time for the mother to have an adult-to-adult talk with her to make her see the event from a mature point of view in place of the earlier escapist idea arising from hesitation to ‘Call  A Spade A Spade’!The concept she put into Gurmehar’s mind was like saying “The Thief did Not loot My Money. The Theft led to My Loss!”That puts the Onus for the theft on both sides, by suggesting that if the Thief was wrong in stealing my money,             I too was at fault by keeping my money carelessly, thus Creating an Occasion for the Theft!

The people who are offended by Gurmehar’s equivocal attitude towards her father’s martyrdom should also challenge her by logical and patient reasoning, not by mudslinging, as the Right Wingers are doing.  She has to be made to understand that though War as such is undeniably an Evil, there are circumstances when it becomes unavoidable for  a country to protect its people from another nation which threatens its safety, stability and integrity by fighting with it. If the War was absolutely wrong and uncalled for, Rajvinder Kaur should have prevented her husband from participating in the war or fighting with the militants at the risk of his life and made him change his profession, or she should not have married an Army Man in the first place! By terming War itself as an inexcusable evil, she has degraded her husband’s martyrdom to a mere pathetic casualty of the War!

Of course, War should be the last resort to deal with an enemy nation. An attempt should indeed be made first to come to an agreement with it by positive dialogue , and by using.   all the methods available to settle differences – ‘Saam, Daam, Dand, Bhed’- but in the end, Peace or Compromise  cannot be arrived at by only onesided effort. The Leaders of Both Nations have to cooperate with one another for the sake of their respective country’s citizens’lives. Hence War becomes a necessary evil for a country’s political leaders and defense forces, to save their country from Slavery or Loss of Land, in the case of an uncompromising and aggressive enemy! Otherwise, Our Kashmiri Hindus will be reduced to the same state and fate as the Tibetans, viz.  loss of Jammu -Kashmir State, with more exiles and refugees into our country ; or they will have to resign themselves to be converted and slaves of the Pakistanis!

We keep on swearing “Kashmir Hamara Hai, aur Hamara Hi Rahega!” But, in all these 70 years of India’s Independence, we have not been able to remove the Article 370 from our Constitution, and make Kashmir fully and undisputedly Ours! We are complacent with the assurance that “Hamari Army Kashmirpar Hamara Haq Banaye Rakhneke Liye Lad Rahi Hai.Hamare Jawan Usike Liye Shaheed Ho Rahe Hain!  Aatankvadiyonko Maar Rahe Hain.Kashmir Kahin Nahi Ja Raha hai. Kashmir Hamara Hai!”

If Pakistan had been in India’s place, they would have scrapped the Article long ago!            That is because there is more solidarity among their citizens than in India, in that they      are not hampered in the consideration or implementation of any decision taken by their High Command by Pseudosecularists and Pseudo-Peacemakers as in India, who make our Government lame and weak. Sad to say, many of these socalled Seculars are elite Hindus, who deserve to be called ‘Bhondus’, that is ‘Fake’! In their fixation to the idea of ‘Peaceful /Neutral’ dealing with hostile or unfriendly nations,which according to them is intellectualism’, they are ‘neutering ‘, namely, castrating the ‘Morale’ of their own nation!

Rajvinder Kaur and Gurmehar Kaur should see  the eye-opening multi starrer Hindi film ‘Border’ in which there is a meaningful dialogue between Sunil Shetty, playing a Senior Army Officer, and Akshay Khanna, who was partaking in a war for the first time and was loathed do  to shoot a Pakistani soldier caught sneaking into the Indian side of the Border on his superior’s order. Akshay, or whatever name his character in the film is called by,     cried and begged his senior officer not to make him take the life of  the Pakistani soldier, as the latter had not attacked them directly. On that, the Superior Officer explained to               the Junior soldier, like Lord Krishna did to Arjun on the battlefield of Mahabharata, that it was imperative to shoot the encroacher; for if he did not shoot  the trespasser, the latter would shoot him and capture his land, which no soldier sworn and dedicated to save his Nation’s integrity, security and dignity has the right to allow! Too much tendency to pacify an enemy for Peace amounts to Complacency, which is liable to be seen Not as Goodness  but as an Apologetic Attitude, COWARDICE and WEAKNESS by the enemy, and as INFIDELITY towards the Nation’s citizens and soldiers, and HYPOCRISY, namely,      ‘Haathi ke Daant, Dikhaneke Alag, Khaneke Alag’, by their Subjects!

Each living being has three ways of defending itself – ‘Fight, Fright, or Flight’. The latter two defences, of Flight or Submission out of Fright, are needed to save oneself when faced with an enemy whom one cannot cope with. Human beings have one more option, of resolving a conflict by Dialogue, but that requires the will to understand the other party and settle disputes on both sides; if that is not there, the only defense for a nation having the fitness to fight, is War. As said before, that option should be used as the Last Resort, but when such need arises, it is Cowardice to avoid it under the veneer of ‘Peace’! Gandhiji  had passed a comment, that is, “Hindus are Cowards, and Muslims are Bullies!”He was right (though he did not realise that to some extent, he and his Policy of Peaceful Resistance that he thrust upon Hindus was responsible for it). He has tamed Hindus and Indians in general to such an extent that even after nearly 70 years of freedom and constant attacks by Pakistan on our country, our political leaders are hesitant to declare Pakistan ‘A Terrorist State’ nor withdraw the title of the ‘Most Favoured Nation’ from it!


अगर हम हमारी धरतीमाँ को दुश्मनके आक्रमणसे बचाने के लिये लडनेमें हिचकिचाहट महसूस करें, तो लालत है हमपे!                   इतने भी गये गुज़रे नहीं हैं ‘हम हिंदुस्तानी’! जय हिंद!
